My friend floy, affectionately called dr. floy from france is in barcelona… met her in Pune where she had come to study rudra veena from Panditji…. she plays the double bass and has a concert in Madrid. Have not met her for over 5 years … this is landing up being the most amazing trip…meeting old friends unplanned….
Go on a bike with my new spanish musician friend… and we meet out in the many squares and outside cafes in this amazing city… and she has a fried Elise from Berlin there with her… Elise is into event music planning… and now I have one more friend to visit in Berlin…
sights as we walk around
Floy has been invited to a terrace barbeque party…. .. Barcelona is a city for walking… the centre is almost like a no car zone….. there is skateborders, cyclists, leg pedaled scooters….the kind we played with as kids… but here grownups also use them… they are simple to carry …and makes moving around a lot easier.
the stairway
walk up 5 floors but its worth it. Bang in the centre of barcelona a little terrace … cute little and with 7-8 people around… they are all from different parts…south african, palestine, france, armenian…floy is on a new project ..geneology… and we do some recordings..
one girl tells us of her father who came on a refugee boat, another of how it felt to grow up under arpatheid….its fascinating… going into these backgrounds…soon everyone wants to tell their story….what a lovely way to spend an evening..
the little girl makes drawings for each one of us… i give her the beaded necklace and she is delighted…
We manage to communicate… gestures… and after white wine get a fantastic bloody mary….hosts favourite and it really is good… music dancing and at 6 we are off to xivys concert… in an old church… its people singing in overtone..meaning two tones at the same time… it ends with hundreds of us collectively humming an auuuum sound … it is really uplifting….
dinner and a cab home… what an evening…
